Why do pictures of Jesus on the cross show nails through his hands not his wrists?.?

I guess the wrists would be where they put the nails not the hands but pictures never show this. Why do pictures of Jesus on the cross show nails through his hands not his wrists?.?
hands not wristWhy do pictures of Jesus on the cross show nails through his hands not his wrists?.?
In order to nail someone onto a cross the nails have to go through the wrists science has proven that through the hands would allow the weight of the body to tear the nails out...

Why religions continue to use the other depiction is probably to keep the visual depiction and the written depiction the same..
Don't ever buy any of Jesus' crucified paintings. You will risk yourself on give explanation to you kids. Like to your question right now.
These are imaginary pictures, Jesus never made pictures. He was true prophet of God who saved him and took to the heavens when Jews and Romans planned to kill him.
well, change your picture... any problem with that?
It's just artistic symbolism, not the reality.
Consider that artists generally aren't interested in science. When painting a picture of Jesus on the cross, they read that the nails went through the hands and that's the way they create the art, because the way they understand it is that is the way it should be.

Some people might point to an inconsistency in the Bible here, but there actually isn't any. During this time, the wrists were considered to be part of the hand. So, when they wrote that the nails went through his hands, it's not an inconsistency. It's just the way it was considered during this time period.
no one knows how the romans crucified people. this is just an artist rendition.
It was a misconception stemming back to the earliest of religious paintings, the other artists simply copied their predecessors....

Blessed Be... )O(
Through the hands is more dramatic.
Because in the original Greek the word was hand but it went from the actual hand up through the wrist and people just got confused. It was through the wrist because that is where the human body could be supported.
Good question. Kind of ruins those ';stigmata stories';, doesn't it.

Like a previous answerer, I heard that the Romans crucified people on a stake, not on a cross.
because he was nailed to the cross through the palms of his hands.
because stories are twisted people make it however they want it to be.Jesus didnt even die on a cross it was a stake.
How acquainted with the Turin Shroud are you?
