I know these may seem like silly questions, but decorating is not my best quality. Is there a simple way to hang pictures and curtains without using nails or screws? Why not use nails to hang pictures and curtains? All you have to do is fill the holes afterwards. When I hang curtains, I put the rods outside the window frame so as to not ruin the wood - easier to fill-in holes in walls. OR you could hang curtains inside the window frame using tension rods - no holes at all!! I would not want to sit under a fairly heavy picture if it hadn't been hung up with a nail/hanger.
You can get special nails that go in at an angle so that they leave the smallest hole possible. You can get them at places like AC Moore, Michael's etc.





How big are the pictures. If they are large, I would do the same amount from the ceiling and from the sofa. If they are small, I would put the nail about one-third of the way down from the ceiling. Eye level is about good, but it also depends on the size and how many.
They say photos and such should be at eye level. Kind of makes it a little harder to do when someone like me is only 5' tall. So I usually go 6' for me. There is this stuff that looks like silly putty than you can use to hang with. I used it in college because our walls were brick. Just don't hang anything REAL valuable, just in case. It does work well for most everyday things though.
