Take the screws/nails out, take a hammer and lightly tap the hole into the wall, a ball peen would work easiest. Run a taping knife across to scrape any loose paint or debris. Get yourself some sheetrock 20 45 or 90, whatever you are comfortable working with. Mix up a small amount and apply over the holes, put it on and scrape it right off. Allow it to set, apply a second coat. You will likely only need 2 coats but 3 may be neccassary, sand the spots once competed all coats and have set. Prime the spots and then ready to paint. If you do not prime, you risk the patch job showing through the new paint job.I have plaster walls. What is the best way to fix nail holes from hanging down pictures.?
I would advise u to use painters caulk , it dries fat its latex and cleans easy, just shoot a little dab on your finger and push it to the holes, don't make the holes bigger, wait a minute or two and wipe excess off with a damp rag or paper towel, if they are large or small holes scrape over them to remove the loose paint or plaster then apply the caulk, dries in a half hour or so and is very forgiving,
DO NOT MAKE THE HOLES BIGGER!! If this is a true old fashioned plaster house your walls should look like there's sand on them.......if so first go grab a couple of handfuls of sand. Then get a little sheetrock mud and mix the sand with it........the 40 min would probably be best for your first time. Fill the hole a little heavy and just before it comes to a total set wipe it with a damp sponge....and sometimes you can brush with an old paint brush..........just try and match the existing finish.........just try a couple of spots first until you feel good about doing it. After that, paint. Good luck......If you have any ?'s ask.
